Paths and Gates

Hardscapes and softscapes should melt together, as a path melts into the forest. Rocks or boulders should be placed to appear as if they were pushed up from below by forces of nature and then softened by time. There’s a balance between what’s natural and what’s imposed, and at Creative Landscapes, Inc., we listen to what the landscape has to say.

While our landscape designs are typically plant driven, we often work with simple gravel and natural stone. With classic training in Japanese gardening, our inspiration almost always comes from nature, whatever the material used. Paths, gates or seating areas should be about the enjoyment of the garden and all beauty that can be derived from the surrounding areas.

As seen in our Formal Mediterranean Garden, the use of a contrasting material in a pathway gate balanced the use of bright, bold colors in the surrounding flowers.
