Woodland Garden with Tropical Accents

Woodland Garden Feature Image

Hardy palms and bamboo, a mix of tropical and shade-loving plants, and a robust fir tree blend tropical and woodland into an eclectic mix of cohesive contradiction. The owner’s love of dramatic contrasts and careful consideration to the existing landscape played out well in this woodland garden.

While an existing fir tree may have dictated many of the decisions for the development of this landscape, careful soil preparation and a raised bed to avoid tree roots and give shade-loving plants a fighting chance to absorb water was a suitable combatant. In the areas of the garden where the sun found its way through, we planted an array of tropical flowers, hardier varieties of palm and bamboo. The lush foliage in the front and back gardens are harmonious study in color and contrasting plant choices.
