An
Eclectic Bungalow Test Garden

The extensive garden at this bungalow is an eclectic mix of
Tropical and woodland features. The owners try out an array
of interesting new plants and make decisions based on a love
of dramatic contrasts.
The existing fir tree dictated many of the decisions for further
development of the landscape. In order to grow plants beneath
a huge tree that soaks up water and blocks sun and rainfall,
we carefully prepped the soil and raised the bed to avoid
tree roots and give shade-loving plants a fighting chance
to absorb water. In areas of the garden where theres
enough sun, weve planted tropical flowers, hardier varieties
of palm, and bamboo. The lush foliage in the front and back
gardens is a study in harmonius color and contrasting foliage.
